The Timbisha Shoshone Tribe has reached a major milestone in an effort to build a casino in Inyokern, two years after its attempt to build one within Ridgecrest city limits failed.
“The Assistant Secretary—Indian Affairs made a final agency determination to acquire in trust 20.03 acres, more or less, of land known as the County Land Parcel in Kern County, California, for the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe for gaming and other purposes,” reads a summary in the Federal Register published July 8. “This final determination was made on July 1, 2024.”
The Federal Register notice describes the property as Parcel 1 of Parcel Map 4949 in Kern County.
