Monday, Governor Newsom signed a tribal-state gaming compact, which approves gambling in Kern County at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, according to news releases sent to the Eyewitness Newsroom.
In the compact, 320 acres of land will be placed in the trust for the Tejon Indian Tribe for the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The resort will be 52 acres, according to the Tejon Indian Tribe release.
Close to 5,000 total jobs will be created said the Tejon Indian Tribe’s release.
“The Tribe committed through an agreement with Kern County to mitigate the impacts of the proposed gaming facility on public services and the surrounding environment,” the press release from the governor’s office said.
The Tejon Indian Tribe receives its first land in more than 150 years, according to its news release.
