The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) is warning residents to be cautious of social media scams that involve websites posing as casinos. The Crown corporation says scammers share fraudulent posts and ads, using the logos, names, and photos of real B.C. casinos.
It says the sites “may claim to offer players exclusive bonuses and promotions if [victims] register with their website or mobile application.”
BCLC says its site is the only one permitted to operate as an online gambling destination in B.C., and all BCLC social media accounts are verified with a check mark.
“While BCLC and its casino partners continue to work on having the posts removed, British Columbians should stay vigilant when it comes to these predatory and sophisticated scams.”
