A brief was filed in Brazil’s Federal Supreme Court on Friday (25 October), supporting the attorney general’s action to limit state lottery-issued betting licenses from being valid nationwide.

The document, filed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PGR), argued in favour of the court’s preliminary injunction that prohibited the Rio de Janeiro State Lottery’s (Loterj) licenses from working on a national basis.

It comes as the government aims to keep all authority for licensing gambling companies to operate nationally within the Ministry of Finance, through court actions.

The PGR’s statement backing the Attorney General’s Office (AGU) was presented at the request of the lawsuit’s rapporteur on the Supreme Court, Edson Fachin.
