A world title bout Saturday kicks off a new season of boxing at Turning Stone Resort Casino, marking the sport’s televised return to the Central New York venue after a two-year absence.

Long Island’s Joe Smith Jr. makes the first defense of his WBO light heavyweight title against Florida’s Steve Geffrard in a fight that will be broadcast from Turning Stone’s Event Center starting at 10 p.m. on ESPN. Geffrard was a late replacement as Smith’s opponent for British fighter Callum Johnson, who tested positive for Covid last week.

Doors open at 7:15 p.m. The “undercard” fights start at 7:45 p.m… Proof of Covid vaccination is required to attend events at the Turning Stone Event Center.
