Atlantic County said Tuesday it has received a $15 million payment to settle a dispute with the state over the 2021 amendments to the casino payment-in-lieu-of-taxes law.
“We fought for more than seven years to make our county taxpayers whole,” County Executive Dennis Levinson said in a statement. “With this settlement, Atlantic County will have received close to $59 million more than it would have had we not challenged the state over the PILOT legislation.”
The county and state reached the settlement April 2 after Levinson met in February with state Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Jacquelyn Suárez. Levinson said the state had until Aug. 1 to make the payment.
