The city of Russellville is one step closer to opening a casino. The Arkansas Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Cherokee Nation Businesses and against the Gulfside Casino Partnership after years of multiple legal challenges.

Arkansans approved casino gambling back in 2018, allowing four different casinos. Now, three are operational and the fourth in Pope County seems to be on the way.

Scott Hardin is the spokesperson for the Arkansas Racing Commission.

β€œIn Pope County, there was initially five applications. Ultimately, only two of those that were through the courts or the racing commission were considered to be valid at that time,” Hardin said.
