Sixty-three people in Wetumpka have been notified that they will be laid off from their jobs in the hospitality industry soon.

A notice dated Aug. 21 says The Service Companies, an organization that provides catering services to the “hospitality, gaming, healthcare, education, and corporate markets” as well as “cleaning, staffing, and managed labor services,” will enact their layoff on Oct. 25.

The company, whose local branch operates in the Wind Creek Casino in Wetumpka, said the layoff stems from the casino deciding to “to transition to an in-house model for staffing services.”

Instead of contracting out cleaning and staffing service, the casino will employ their own hired staff.
