A report from the Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts shows that the Macon County Racing Commission failed to collect the full amount of tax due from Victoryland Casino for two years.

The audit covers the years 2021 through 2024 and shows a sharp increase in revenue collected by the racing commission during the last two years of that period, which coincides with Victoryland’s installation of historical horse racing machines for customers starting in February 2023.

The audit shows the racing commission collected a total of almost $14 million in taxes on pari-mutuel betting at the casino in 2023 and 2024 but that it should have been more because an incorrect tax rate was applied to part of the revenue.
