The glass ceiling just cracked a little, and Wayne Gretzky, Barry Sanders, and Kevin Garnett have company.
BetMGM Friday announced that softball star A.J. Andrews, the first woman to win the prestigious Rawlings Gold Glove Award, will serve the sports betting operator as a brand ambassador.
Andrews and Caesars Sportsbook’s Rachel DeMita, who played college basketball at Old Dominion, are among the few women athletes working as a brand ambassador for a sports betting company.
Andrews will join Gretzky, Sanders, Garnett, Marshawn Lynch and actor Jamie Foxx on BetMGM’s roster.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to dive further into the sports betting industry as a brand ambassador for BetMGM,” said Andrews in a statement. “As I continue to advocate for more opportunities for women in sports, I’m excited to have this new platform to creatively share and inspire others.”
Andrews will appear during broadcast opportunities, via social media content, and at fan events for BetMGM. Currently a Major League Baseball Network personality, Andrews played collegiately at LSU and participated in two Women’s College World Series with the Lady Tigers. She also has played for Chicago Bandits and Akron Racers in the Women Pro Softball League.
Andrews also hosted Unapologetic: The Black Female Athlete for ESPN, and mentors young women in various community non-profit organizations.
“AJ is an all-around powerhouse who has been a trailblazer in sports throughout her career,” said BetMGM Chief Revenue Officer Matt Prevost in a statement. “BetMGM is proud to welcome her to the team as a new personality in sports betting.”
