Southland Casino Racing Thursday announced a donation of $100,000 to Arkansas State University Mid-South in West Memphis to foster development of hospitality workers.
The Jeremy Jacobs Hospitality Management Program, named after the CEO and chairman of Delaware North (parent company of Southland), is the beneficiary of the donation, the tenth in a series of $100,000 checks to the university.
Southland Casino Racing is located in West Memphis.
“As our business evolves and expands, our need for well-trained and highly-skilled employees continues to escalate,” Southland Casino President and General Manager David Wolf said in a statement. “This program will continue to generate a deep pool of qualified hospitality workers who will strengthen the tourism and entertainment efforts of Crittenden County and our region.”
According to the university’s website, the Jeremy Jacobs Hospitality Management program, launched in 2012, prepares students to work in supervisory positions in the hospitality industry, including food service management, customer service, lodging and resort management.
“We wanted to offer a cutting-edge program, and as is Southland’s way, they have provided us with the funds to develop something extraordinary,” said ASU Mid-South Chancellor Debra West in a statement. “Their generosity continues to help our students tremendously. And we are certainly very appreciative of everything Delaware North and Southland Park have done to ensure a brighter future for our region.”
Southland and Delaware North have donated more than $1.6 million to ASU Mid-South since 2006.
