Arizona online sports betting revenue, handle surge

Sports-betting revenue in Arizona rose 21 percent in August, reaching $37.4 million. Money wagered on sports was up 39 percent, hitting $497 million.

Sportsbooks held at 7.5 percent and returned $14.9 million to players in the form of promotional allowances. Ninety percent of revenue was concentrated among the top five operators.

DraftKings led in handle, with $176 million, a 35 percent market share, but trailed FanDuel in revenue, coming in second with $13.2 million. FanDuel saw $162 million in wagers and $14 million in revenue.

BetMGM was a distant third with $3 million derived from $57 million in bets. Caesars Sportsbook narrowly led Bet365, $1.8 million to $1.7 million. Handle was $29 million for Caesars and $22 million for Bet365.

ESPN Bet grossed $800,000 on $12 million in handle. BetRivers saw $400,000 in revenue off handle of $5 million. All other operators made $2.5 million in revenue.

DraftKings led the promotional war with $4.7 million, closely followed by FanDuel’s $4.2 million. BetMGM returned $1.9 million to bettors, while lesser amounts were laid out by Caesars ($600,000), ESPN Bet ($300,000), BetRivers ($100,000) and Bet365 ($900,000).
