Las Vegas tourism continued to take a hit, with travel through its airport down nearly 4% in May.

Harry Reid International Airport reported 4.98 million passengers were handled in May, down 3.9% from 5.19 million in May 2024. For the year, there have been about 900,000 fewer airport passengers compared to 2024.

Domestic travel fell 3.7% in May and is down 4% for the year at 21 million. Budget carrier Spirit fell 27.3% in May, while Southwest Airlines rose 1.9%.

International travel fell 8.7% in May.

For the year, however, travel from Europe is up, as evidenced by British Airways rising 7.9% and KLM up 18%. Korean Airlines is up 27.9% in 2025.

Travel from Canada depresses the total. Air Canada has fallen 9.1% for the year, white Westjet is down 19.8% and Flair is down 62.4% in 2025.

Bank of America issued a travel report Thursday showing soft travel spending.

TSA enplanements and U.S. revenue per room have decelerated versus the first quarter, with June not showing improvement in enplanements or revenue per room trends versus May.

International data trends are better than domestic and Bank of America noted booking management indicated that international travel isn’t seeing the same dynamics as the U.S.

“While U.S. travel activity has likely remained under some year-over-year pressure in June, there was a slight improvement in revenue per room last week, and we think there is still potential for U.S. bookings to rebound somewhat during the summer given healthy employment levels,” the report said.
