SBC announced Thursday that its flagship Betting on Sports event will relocate to Barcelona in 2020 as part of the company’s international expansion plans across the sports betting and gaming industries.
Betting on Sports 2020 will be held in Hall 2 at Fira Barcelona next September 8-11. This year’s Betting on Sports 2019 will be at Olympia London, its home since 2017, on September 17-20.
SBC has recognized that a new venue is required to facilitate the further expansion anticipated in 2020. This year’s event has reached capacity in London.
“Betting on Sports is known for its commitment to quality in content and delegate experience, as well as providing great business opportunities, which has resulted in rapid international growth,” SBC CEO & Founder Rasmus Sojmark said in a statement. “As the show continues to expand and evolve, it’s important for us to stay true to the core values that define the event.
“Barcelona has world-class hotels, transport links and attractions to ensure delegates enjoy a great time in the city, and Fira Barcelona provides a large and centrally located venue.
“The betting and gaming market in Spain continues to grow… Barcelona was an easy choice to make.”
The move to Barcelona has gotten praise from some notable members of the gaming industry.
“Spain is a very exciting gambling market with a big international appeal,” GVC Group Director of Regulatory Affairs Martin Lycka said. “Barcelona is an ideal host city for next year’s conference.”
Princeton Global Strategies Managing Partner George Rover called the city “one of Europe’s great destinations” and called it “a perfect location for an international show.”
Betting on Sports has achieved over 50% year-on-year growth since its launch in 2016. The conference now attracts delegates from more than 60 countries and offers content aimed at challenges and opportunities in markets around the world.
Delegates can expect extensive content from Betting on Sports, the CasinoBeats Summit, the PaymentExpert Forum, the SBC Digital Marketing Forum, the SBC Sponsorship Forum and the Sports Betting Hall of Fame. The number of expert speakers on offer means that Betting on Sports will be providing one of the biggest gatherings of gambling expertise in the industry.
The relocation will see the Sports Betting Hall of Fame Ceremony also move to Barcelona, where pioneers in the industry are recognised for their contributions to the business of sports betting.
